HANDS-ON TRAINING
Our Apprenticeship Program
You don’t need years of experience to begin a rewarding career in the sheet metal industry. Our apprenticeship program combines paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction, so as you learn the trade, you’ll build valuable skills, earn a paycheck, and work toward a future with real opportunity.
The Sheet Metal Workers’ Apprenticeship is a five-year training program that includes 40 hours per week of on-the-job instruction and classroom instruction one day every two weeks. Applicants can apply online, or visit the training center at 4725 Silver Hill Road, Suitland, MD 20746, Monday-Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. With new classes starting every three months, applicants will be notified when upcoming test dates are scheduled.

Licensed Journeymen Ready to Join
If you’re an experienced sheet metal worker, joining SMART Local 100 can help turn your craft into a more secure, supported, and rewarding career. Our union gives Journeymen access to strong wages, better benefits, high training standards, and the representation that helps protect the work you’ve already worked hard to master.
We also offer night and weekend classes for members in good standing, including CAD, welding, sketching, service, TAB, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 30, and welding certification testing. To register for classes or reserve a welding certification testing spot, members should contact the Training Center directly.
